The Dr. Robert Helm Scholarship
About
Dr. Robert N. Helm was a family practice physician in New Roads for many years. After Dr. Helm's retirement from his private practice he continued to work as the medical director for Pointe Coupee Homebound Health and Hospice until his death in 2016. This scholarship opportunity was created in honor of Dr. Helm's hard work and dedication in the medical profession.
Dr. Helm had a genuine compassion for this community and is remembered for his outstanding character. This scholarship opportunity is a small way to honor his giving spirit. The scholarship will be awarded to three local high school seniors, one from each parish high school, who has a genuine interest in perusing a career in the medical profession.
The Dr. Robert N. Helm Fund will award a $250.00 scholarship to one graduating senior at Catholic High of Pointe Coupee, one graduating senior at False River Academy, and one graduating senior at Livonia High School.
Eligibility
Must be a graduating senior in Pointe Coupee Parish.
Must be enrolled in a college, university, technical or vocational college with intentions of pursuing a career in the medical profession.
Must submit an essay stating intentions after high school graduation, including information regarding anticipated field of study. Student should include why the particular field of study has been chosen and any past participation in medical-related programs in the community. Include why you think it is important to seek employment in the medical field. Essay must be typed in 12 point font, double-spaced.
The scholarship award must be used toward expenses related to attending the college, university, technical or vocational college.
