About

The Janell Legier LaCombe Fund was created in 2001 to honor the life of its namesake. Janell passed away from cancer on June 8, 2001. She left behind her husband of over thirty years, J.C. LaCombe Jr., and two sons, Jay and Jeremy LaCombe. Her family and friends created the non-profit foundation to raise money so that they can help others fighting cancer.

Mission

The mission of this foundation is to support the health and well-being of the people of Pointe Coupee Parish by reducing the burden of their illness. The Pointe Coupee Health Services Foundation is able to achieve this through the Janell LaCombe Fund.

The foundation reports to a subcommittee of the Pointe Coupe Health Services Board quarterly. The committee makes the final decisions regarding the foundation. The advisory committee will advise the board and make decisions regarding day to day problems that arise. The specific goals for the organization will be dynamic and will change, based on the current needs of the community.

Goals

The Janell LaCombe Fund is established to benefit cancer patients in Pointe Coupee Parish to help meet the needs from challenges related to the cancer diagnosis.

The goals of this foundation are to improve health care and access to health care, improve the health of the citizens, and develop health care resources.

Specifics

The fund will assist clients up to $500.00/month which covers, un-reimbursed and unmet needs related to the cancer diagnosis.

  1. Durable medical equipment including oxygen.

  2. Mileage expenses 0.58 cents/mile for travel related to office visits with oncologists or cancer treatment.

  3. Medications related to the cancer diagnosis.

  4. Physician visits up to $100.00/visit.

  5. Medical testing related to the cancer diagnosis.

  6. Medical supplies related to the cancer diagnosis.

  7. Nutritional supplements related to cancer diagnosis.

  8. Special needs approved by the advisory committee.

  9. An extra $100.00 granted for out of state travel for treatments related to cancer diagnosis

  10. Hotel reimbursements of $150.00/night for up to 3 nights stay out of state for cancer visits and treatments. Please be sure to get proof of visits and hotel stay.

All receipts and mileage records to be submitted by the 15th of the following month. No reimbursements will be made in advance of the receipts. The funds are donated and may run out.
